The importance of bamboos has increased many-folds during the last few decades as an important source of raw material for various end uses. Besides being important as a raw material in a number of industries, bamboos are used in a myriad ways by rural people and are interwoven with their lifestyle in many parts of our country, especially in North-East India.

Bamboos of North-East India is a pioneering work in the form of a consolidated taxonomic and distributional account based on more than two decades of field works by the authors. It deals with 87 species, one variety and one forma belonging to the genera of bambusoid grasses found to be occurring in North East India, with  explicit keys to the genera and species, updated nomenclature, vernacular names and  with profuse illustrations.

Critical discussions on distribution, usage, rare and endangered elements, agro-technique for bamboo cultivation and ornamental bamboo species found in North-East India are added features of the book.
