BSF is known as First Wall of Defence of Indian Territories and its personals are famous for their swift availability and dedication for their motherland. BSF ethos "Any Task, Anytime, Anywhere".The last two decades of the 20th century witnessed a spate of internal security problems, terrorism and insurgencies in different parts of the country which the BSF handled with professional competence.
There is a growing realization, now, that border management must broadly include a comprehensive package which involves defending the border in times of war, securing the borders in times of peace, ensuring that there are no unauthorized movements of humans. Officers and men are trained to perform their duties in a wide variety of interpersonal situations where values and ethics are of paramount importance. Functioning with minimal supervision and little time for reflection, they are equipped to make complex, and crucial decisons, many of which are irrevocable, during highly emotional, fast moving, stressful situations. This book brings out the professional capabilities and the contributions of BSF in service to the Nation. (jacket)
