Environmental impacts on biodiversity are a well-compiled book that covers the various dimensions of environments and biodiversity. In the present book, we present a collection of 22 chapters related to environmental impacts on biodiversity. It includes changes in biodiversity by climate change, tourism and some adverse environmental factors such as heavy metals fluoride, water shortage, salinity, pollutants and biotic interferences.
With increase in industrialization and urbanization, pollution is becoming a global problem. Plants have mechanisms (metabolic and enzymatic) to survive in such sub-optimal conditions. There has been a growing awareness about the hazards of atmospheric pollution during the past many decades. Air pollutants be able to hurt ecological resources, as well as water superiority, soils, plants, in addition to humans, birds and other animals. The problems of overpopulation, overconsumption, development and industrialization are intertwined and the causes are not singular and straight forward.
In India, ecologically unique and biodiversity rich regions are legally protected as biosphere reserves, national parks and sanctuaries. Important Indian Acts, Policies related to environmental and bio-Diversity and strategic plan for biodiversity 2011-2020 have been well discussed.
