The book is an outcome of the two days seminar organized by CRRID with the support of the North Zone Tagore Commemoration Committee NZTCC, Chandigarh, to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Apart from the discipline of literature, scholars from different areas of social sciences participated in this seminar. In fact the contributors have written their papers on the themes of Tagore\'s literary output and philosophy, his  model for rural reconstruction and his views on caste, gender inequality and women empowerment in India. The authors have related their views on Tagore\'s perspective on various issues in the context  of contemporary situation in India. On one hand Rabindranath Tagore\'s writings depict powerfully the contemporary Indian reality under the British rule and on other hand they provide a vision to transform Indian society in a way to make it better place to live and to harness human resources for future progress.
