From the Preface: "This book is an attempt to analyze issues relating to privatization, emergence of foreign education providers and issue of Foreign Direct Investment in higher education. At the level of practices various providers have appeared on the scene due to high demand for higher education. But, unfortunately, there is no policy framework to deal with the changing phenomenon. As a result, certainly, there is risk of commercialization of education, which may adversely affect the objectives of quality and inclusiveness in higher education. There may also develop an imbalance in the growth of basic and applied disciplines. Hence regulations to deal with these issues need to be considered. The present work throws light on this.

The book also makes an attempt to understand the directions and growth process of higher education. It calls policy makers to initiate regulations that could bring higher education on to socially desirable path and explore institutional reforms that will motivate the stakeholders--teachers, administrators and planners--to institutionalize new practices to deal with change."
