Export sector make India stand well by contributing enormously to the export earnings of the country. Textiles in general and cotton yarn in particular has a strong potential for export and the developing countries have the task of improving the exports. India is currently facing severe competition in exporting commodities also. Strenuous efforts were taken to expand the export earnings and are achieved through the textile commodities; export of cotton yarn takes a big place in the textile export basket.

The study is designed to examine and analyse the export performance of cotton yarn over a period of twenty-three years. The structural behaviour of cotton yarn exports, the growth rates of exports, the instability of exports and the concentration of yarn exports has been analyzed. An attempt is also taken to analyse the degree of diversification in export destinations.
