"The mystic songs of Kanha and Saraha were translated into French by Professor Muhammad Shahidullah in 1928. A prefatory note for this work was written by the eminent French Indologist Jules Bloch. Its original title was Les Chants Mystiques de Kanna et Saraha (Adrien-Maisonneuve, Paris, 1928). This work was the thesis written for the degree of D. Litt., and submitted to the Paris University. The great importance of this work consists in its lucid explanation of the religious ideas expressed in the Dohas, the analysis of the historical and legendary data relating to Kanha and Saraha, a detailed discussion of phonology and grammar of the Dohakosa, and an explanation of the prosody and metric. The second part consists of the Dohas of Kanha with Tibetan version and translation. Appendix I explains in detail the vocabulary  with philological notes. Appendix II contains the Caryas of Kanha, which have been translated. This is followed by the Dohakosa of Saraha and its translation and Tibetan version. In appendix III, the author gives, with philological notes, an Apabhramsa-Sanskrit-Tibetan vocabulary. Appendix IV contains the text of the Carya of Saraha and its translation."
