This first critical Edition of the Yuddhakanda of Valmiki’s Ramayana is based on four selected printed editions, thirty four selected manuscripts in several different scripts, viz the Sarada, Newari, Maithili, Bengali, Devanagari, Telugu, Grantha and Malayalam procured from different parts of India and abroad, Ksemendra’s Epitome called the Ramayana Manjari and several commentaries from the oldest available of Udari Varadarana. The material available on the Ramayana is really very vast, and the organizers and the Editor has to ignore several printed editions for which the reader is referred to Shri N.A. Gore’s Bibliography of the Ramayana, as well as second rate or dilapidated or damaged manuscripts.
