"This book is reformed research work titled Herbal Medicine in Bangladesh: Issues and Challenges for which the author Md. Jahangir Alam is awarded Ph. D from Institute of Bangladesh Studies, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The design and methodology of the work is satisfactory and the research appears to have been done painstakingly. This area of research, which goes under the rubric health history, is now very popular in all parts of the world. So far as my knowledge goes this is a pioneer work in Bangladesh health history in the area of traditional medicine. The author has dealt with critically the decline of Ayurvedic and Unani schools of medicine under the impact of British rule, and the treatment has been quite illuminating. He has tried to use all the sources available in Bangladesh and abroad. It is an original research work which will undoubtedly add to the existing state of knowledge." (jacket)
