Tribal Demography and Development in North-East India

The volume brings together 20 research papers prepared mostly by scholars from North-East India, on the critical problems of tribal demography and development. In particular, emphasis has been put on nutrition, health and education. The wider issues involved in the development of tribal areas have also been discussed by several well known scholars on tribal population. Even though the focus of this volume is on North-east India, the special problems of different tribal communities within this region have also been brought out by several papers. In the ultimate analysis all the tribes cannot be clubbed together even in North-East India. Individual attention is required of each tribal community in the preparation of sub plans by the Planning Commission. (jacket)
