From the Preface: "Present work titled "Unani Medicinal Plants of Tarai Forests in Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand provides first hand field data and literature research on 137 Unani medicinal species, belonging to 121 genera and 66 families, out of 419 taxa collected and identified from the study area between 1999 and 2003 by Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit of the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Aligarh.

All species are arranged in alphabetical order, providing information on their botanical name, synonym (if any), family, Unani/Tibbi, English and prevalent local name(s), locality, voucher specimen number(s), plant brief description, occurrence, habit and habitat, local use(s), if any, and important therapeutic action and uses as described in literature on medicinal plants of the country and available texts of Unani medicine. Besides, information highlighting over exploited species are also given. The volume is appended with separate indices on English, Unani/Tibbi and popular names of the plant, glossary of Unani terms used in the text with their modern equivalent/explanatory notes." (jacket)
