In the present world where ills like communalism, terrorism, casteism, corruption, gender inequality and fundamentalism still constitute the ‘cultural ethos’ of society, the need for value education and the role it can play in social transformation, cannot be overemphasized.
Today, despite recognizing the importance of education in making children conscious of the value of social justice, democracy, equality, secularism, tolerance and fraternity,  most of our schools are unable to internalize them into their personality. Thus, unless the cluster of purposive value system is transmitted to children at early schooling, the notion of a ‘just society’ will always remain a myth.

The present volume, with 25 articles divided into three sections, and written by widely acclaimed social scientists, philosophers and activists, has been designed against the above backdrop. In a sense, it exhibits the rules of polity, culture and economy in shaping education and value system and vice versa.

The volume will be useful not only for scholars and students but will also interest policy makers.
