"Welcome to the world of Volleyball. Volleyball is played in more than two hundred Federations and by more then eighty five million people every year. In countries such as Brazil, France, Russia, Cuba, China, India, Czechoslovakia, Japan, Mexico, and Poland championship matches draw huge crowds. So popular has Volleyball become that it is ranked third in the world as a recreational team sport.
Imagine a ball which is hit so hard that it is coming towards you at a speed of 110 miles per hour. The ball is moving so fast you can hardly see it. Your job is to get under this flash of the multi colour ball and pass it accurately to the proper teammate. He in turn then passes the ball up to a spiker who jumps high in the air and smashes this moving ball with tremendous speed over the net and into your opponents court. This is Volleyball as played by some of the greatest athletes in the world today. Despite its modernization and sophistication, Volleyball has never lost its values as a lifetime sport. The original concept remains intact but has been modified to fit today\'s standards." (jacket)
