Taxonomic research on Indian hoverflies has flourished over the past few decades with numerous species being synonymized, changes being made at species, generic, tribe and subfamily levels, several species discovered, and may species were newly recorded, which produces a need for updating Indian syrphid taxon list. To provide comprehensive data on hoverflies across the country, the authors have systematically catalogued Indian hoverflies with detailed information on type, species, synonymies and distributional data from relevant literature. A total of 369 species in 79 genera under 4 subfamilies are listed in the present work, including 3 unconfirmed species records, which makes the Indian Syrphid taxon list to comprise 366 species in 77 genera under 13 tribes and 4 subfamilies. This book will be an important database for future workers, working on Indian Hoverflies.
