Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another. Communication skills, a fascinating study consist of five segments: speaking, listening, writing, readability and readable writing and non-verbal cues, which are completely neglected in formal education. Communication can be a fun as we are interacting with others by exchanging facts, feelings figures, emotions, ideas, opinions etc. There are four major communication skills: (i) reading (ii) writing (iii) speaking and (iv) listening.

Fast changes in the world over demand that people must be proficient in all four types and all the segments of communication. In this competitive and information rich world, students as well everybody of us are now being challenged to exhibit the ability to think observe and speak effectively. Today’s communication problem is about right perception use of information analysis of situation, creation of impulses and finding ways to put across and handle messages.

On the basis of the recommendations of fourth Deans committee, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi introduced the course on “Communication Skills and entrepreneurship development. This course is being taught in all of the faculties of agricultural Universities of India and other countries. The authors took care of the entire contents suggested by the ICAR for this course.

The present textbook comprises major 15 topics viz, communication, verbal communication, non verbal communication NVC listening active listening note taking writing skills, technical writing, writing abstract, summarizing bibliography, précis writing oral presentation skills, reading and comprehensive of general and technical articles and public speaking. The students community and the faculty for long were since long were in search of such a material where comprehensive matter on the communication skills is available. (jacket)
