Anedotes From a Diplomat\'s Life

This is a fascinating account of the author\'s struggle as a poor boy trying to finance his education, his love marriage in 1944 against formidable opposition from family and the community at large, his career as a journalist on the Stateman and All India Radio and then his long span as a diplomat representing India in many countries and at the United Nations. While working on The Statesman he witnessed the \'Great Calcutta Killing\' which was unleashed on the 16th August 1946, the Direct Action Day declared by the Muslim League and the sporadic stabblings that followed for almost a year. As the sole survivor of the three Indian officials who played a pivotal role in the liberation of Pondicherry, the author reveals many little known facts of the liberation movement.
