From the preface: "Asia/Pacific-Who\'s Who\' had been specifically conceived to present outline-biographies of personalities of the Asian continent\'s Pacific neighbours, especially New Zealand and the continent of Australia, and aligning them with notable figures of Asia. Besides, several Asian countries are also often referred to as Pacific-rim nations and this title of the book, in effect, seeks to harmonise their dual position vis-a-vis Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

This inaugural volume of the \'Asia/Pacific-Who\'s Who\' spotlights the achievements of about 2200 personalities chosen from diverse fields of human activity.

In spite of limitations of time and space and restriction of entries to only select personalities, attempts have been made to cover leading figures in politics, religion, science, literature, cinema, sports and various other fields of human activity. The endeavour has been to focus on all those persons who have contributed to varied aspects of human achievement including the \'most inquired about\' at local, regional, national and international levels and others who have stamped their mark, by deed or thought, on the 20 century.
