I Here is a touch of elegance in the way the armed forces JL keep their working and living environment! These stand out for their spruced up look, cleanliness and a right blend of nature and manmade. The Air Force Sports Complex, which is part of Safdarjang Airforce Station, at Safdarjang Road, New Delhi, is no exception. It is spread over a fairly large area, with lush green grounds and a variety of trees, shrubs and creepers. Flanked on three sides by grand sandstone and marble mausoleum of Safdarjung, the airport runway and the racecourse and the famous Jaipur Polo Ground respectively, it is, for its members and visitors alike, an enchanting place. For quite sometime, and till recently, a large board, fixed on one side of the elevated green of the 1 st tee off, had a three dimensional and colourful picture of one of its tree-lined fairways. And at the bottom of the picture was a quotation from an unknown person. One could not miss a sense of pathos, though not intended, in those words in the context of the gallant fliers of the force. It read: "As you walk down the fairway of life, you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round. And I loved it.Engrossed as all are in their respective vocations, it is not surprising that most never look around as they walk down the \'fairway\' and hence tend to miss the \'roses\' altogether. And if the fairway be the vast subcontinent of India, one would then miss a rare spectacle of a myriad roses.
