Beyond Violence: Principles For An Open Century

In a world in which conflict is endemic and widespread, and in which essentialist culturalism and cynical realism join in defining it as inevitable, Roberto Toscano and Ramin Jahanbegloo oppose a dissenting view: we can move beyond violence, and although conflict is real, peace is possible. The book stands for a higher realism, an ethical realism which shuns the conventional wisdom of so many pseudo-realists, whose pretended objectivity is just a cover for their passivity or their perverse preference for conflict.

Roberto Toscano, an Italian diplomat, is currently Italy’s ambassador to India. He has a Law degree from the University of Parma, Italy an M.A. in International Relations from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University, and was a Fellow at the Center for International Affairs of Harvard University.
