Botanical paintings are a relatively new subject in India, introduced by the British during the 19th century. This illustrated volume combines artistic skill with scientific accuracy to depict plants faithfully, created by Indian artists. This coffee table book features 412 botanical paintings of various plants, produced by 12 different artists between 1948 and 1970. The goal of this publication is to highlight the work of these unsung Indian botanical artists from the Botanical Survey of India to a broader audience. It is hoped that this book will serve as a fitting tribute to their talents and help popularize botanical art among the current generation.
