This work includes 7 species new to the bryoflora of India, 1 to that of the Indian mainland, 15 to that of Peninsular India, 1 to that of the Western Ghats and 5 rediscovered after more than half a century. Nomenclature has been updated following the current Code. There are 216 figures and 26 colour plates – 3 colour plates to show the vegetation types, 9 to show the habit and nature of habitat and 14 colour plates to enable the user to identify the species. Students and teachers of botany, researchers in academic and research institutions as well as those who are interested in the diversity of cryptogams which still have not received adequate attention, will be largely benefitted.
