Ever since we started teaching communication, which we still do, and during our participation in various occasional or sometimes regular callings at seminars, conferences and in personality development programmes, we realized that fluent communication apart, there was strain felt by the participants (students, manager, faculty), even the office staff, that they lacked adequate vocabulary, and there was no respect for grammar and most of them struggled to clothe their responses in appropriate language. We know also, so would you most probably agree to share the same view, variances and variety of nuts and bolts apart, that in the modern communication explosion, there are two aspects: spoken English and Business communication. Communication is decidedly mass communication for most part in the world of work (throughout the world). India can not remain insulated. In fact, India's population, that too, having reasonable communicability through English, literacy level with matriculation level of formal education in mind, is about 40%. With government having made education as a fundamental right under the constitution, this percentage is likely to go up to 60% or so in the next 5 to 7 years.
In consideration of the above, realising that we could do a bit for the present students and those in various calling, more particularly for the benefit of those undergoing rigorous processional courses, we decided on the project of writing this book containing not only grammar but also principles and exercises and specimens of correspondence with various publics in the corporate world. We are sure this book would be found useful by the all those interested in improving their communication skill and be on the top of the world. This aspect will serve not only the users of the book but also help in improving the quality of human capital of India, so necessary to make India competitive in the fast emerging global village through the magic of internationalized economy.
