"The book entitle "China-Africa Strategic Engagement" critically examines the relationship between China and Africa in the political, economic, strategic and, of course, cultural perspectives. Apart from examining the genesis of China-Africa political and economic relations, the authors have particularly investigated the bilateral relations between China and Sudan, China and Angola, China and Nigeria, and China and Uganda.
The issue of energy security has been a matter of serious concern for China and, hence, one of the key objectives of China has been to acquire the African oil and gas. China\'s heavy investment in Sudan, Angola and Nigeria is an evidence to substantiate this fact. Diplomatic isolation of Taiwan is another important goal of the Chinese African policy. Most of the African countries have followed the "One China Policy" and it is a major success for the foreign policy of China.
On the whole, China-Africa political, economic, strategic and cultural relations seems mutually beneficial and, indeed, in their long-term interests. The author is fully convinced that his book would be an invaluable source of knowledge for the academician, researcher as well as policy-maker. The book is the original, most comprehensive and critical analysis of China-Africa economic, political and strategic involvement is the 21st century." (jacket)
