Collagen: Biosynthesis, Structure and Applications in Biomedicine is a dedicated effort to disseminate the basic and specialized aspects of collagen biochemistry. Collagen research is being investigated worldwide owing to the potential applications of this wonder molecule in every facet of biomedicine. There have been several approaches on the information of collagen in terms of its structure and applications. However, comprehensive information, right from the biosynthesis and identification of the primary structure to its varied applications is lacking. In this book, the authors have collated all such information and presented in a single volume to benefit the readers. This book comprises of 7 chapters which provide up-to-date information on collagen science, including, elucidation of biosynthetic pathways and structure-function relationship, and, applications in tissue regeneration, wound healing and drug delivery. The book is designed for graduate study as well as for your researchers and experienced scientists. The basic aim is to provide technical information to leather technologists, both, in academics and in industry. A special section on the chapteroning functions of heat shock protein 47 is included while such information is rarely provided in other books of interest. Several results from the author’s research work which have been published in peer-reviewed journals are presented. The book is aimed to enrich the understanding of leather chemists with biological information and update their knowledge in collagen research. Overall, the book is a handy reference for those in the field of leather technology and in basic collagen research and is also suitable for beginners interested in collagen science.
