The development of comparative education societies in the region it must be admitted has not been entirely linear and smooth. For example the activities of the Hong Kong society have fluctuated in part reflecting the enthusiasm and initiatives of a small group of people bray 1999. The Indian society has also fluctuated in vigor. It had a major impact during the initial period after its creation but during the 1980s and 1990s it gradually fell into neglect.
