This book presents, for students of Physical Education and physical therapy, the essential facts of human anatomy and physiology as they pertain to the subject of corrective exercise. There is nothing original in the text, except its arrangement and the emphasis placed upon certain phases of the subject. The material has been gathered from medical literature and from clinic experience and organized in a way to build on the past experiences of the student and lead him to an interest in the subject, which will compel him to consider the problem of the underdeveloped or handicapped child as of prime importance in modern society. To arrive at a thorough preparation for helping the child or youth who is underprivileged physically or psychologically, the teacher or physical therapist must first master the simple facts of gross anatomy and keep in touch with the advancing knowledge in physiology. He must know what a normal body looks like, and how it functions mechanically to maintain the erect human positions and to perform efficient movements. From the standpoint of the student of Corrective or Reconstructive Physical Education, who will use this book, the fact that there is disagreement as to methods of treatment will be stimulus to his independent investigation to the subject.
