Cyber War and Terrorism

The definition of ‘terrorism’ has been well studied, defined, and documented. There is also a degree of understanding of the meanings of Cyber Terrorism, either from the popular media, other secondary sources, or personal experience. Cyberwarfare is politically motivated hacking to conduct sabotage and espionage. It is a form of information warfare sometimes seen as analogous to conventional warfare. The face of terrorism is changing. While the motivations remain the same, we are now facing new and unfamiliar weapons. The intelligence systems, tactics, security procedures and equipment that were once expected to protect people, systems, and nations, are powerless against this new, and very devastating weapon. Cyberterrorism can be also defined as the intentional use of computer, networks, and public internet to cause destruction and harm for personal objectives. Objectives may be political or ideological since this is a form of terrorism. This is a book intended for use at the advanced undergraduate and introductory graduate levels, non-university training courses, as well as reference and self-study for security professionals. It will also be useful for anyone who needs to understand, implement or maintain and secure network or computer system.
