An attempt has been made in this book “Death Rituals and Practices: The Hill Saora Tribe of Odisha” to discuss the social and cultural practices encompassing death rituals of the Hill Saora who are otherwise known as Lanjia Saora of Odisha. Studying the elaborate mechanism of death ritual among the Hill Saora (Lanjia Saora) society it is observed that the role of the sister in death rituals assumes significance when take the relationship of lord Jaggannath with his sister into account.
