"The book entitled "Democracy, Development and Human Rights" essentially deals with the linkages among political system, economic growth and civil liberty. It is widely acknowledged that democracy provides the ideal ground for the economic development of a nation which, in turn, promotes human rights.
The authors have critically examined the concept of democracy and democratisation and its overall impact on development and human rights. In the case study of Botswana, the authors have clearly established that the contribution of democracy is promoting human right is enormous.
Quite interestingly, the authors have established that in the absence of democratic system of government, not only the human rights are threatened and become more vulnerable but economic development also becomes the major victim. The Idi Amin Regime in Uganda is the glaring example in this context." (jacket)
