"Nepal has just come out from the dark rule of monarchy and entered in to the democratic republican era. The development related drawback since more than half a century now needs a boost up and statistical facts relating to the past and present will thus work as a key element for enhancing the development efforts.

Development profile of Nepal is thus an endeavor to make a balance in development oriented information both at national and subnational levels. It is also an effort towards equipping people with solid regular information about the development efforts in the country. Various sectors related to development of the country have been focused briefly by this volume and attempt has been made to incorporate the latest available statistics in those sectors. The book, starting with brief information of the country, covers sectors such as agriculture, natural resources, demography, health, education, hydropower, irrigation, industry, economy, urban development and more. A chronology of peace process, which is still in progress, is also tabulated. Similarly, a summary of the current three years Interim Plan and a brief review of the recently completed Tenth Plan (PRSP) will be helpful especially to planners and policy makers. The second part of the book represents the districts. In this part, district development indicators have been developed for analyzing the districts in comprehensive manner." (jacket)
