"Dhaka Past Present Future was first published in 1991. It was the outcome of an international seminar where scholars from home abroad presented papers on different aspects of the life and history of Capital Dhaka. These papers were edited and published in a book form under the title Dhaka Past Present Future. The book contained several articles on the past and present conditions of the different aspects of the life and culture of Dhaka, and one article exclusively on how Dhaka would look like in 2025. The articles were written mostly by specialists on Dhaka and in areas in which they had worked for years. It is gratifying to note that the book became an instant success and was consulted and read by scholars all over the world specializing in Dhaka and by general readers.

The articles of the book have been arranged under the headings of history, politics, society, and culture; monuments and paintings; contemporary and future issues, urbanisation and urban society, and short communications." (jacket)
