From the preface: "This book, Dimensions of Ageing is a collection of thirty three empirical Indian studies published in the Indian Journal of Gerontology from. The six sections of this compilation are: quality of life, personality and adjustment, attitudes towards the elderly, problems of the elderly, social status and social support, and successful ageing.
Though most of the papers inn this volume deal with individual ageing or the growth of an individual, some of the papers are related to population ageing or collective ageing in the Indian society. Population ageing is the result of demographic transition. The population or society ages when there is a quantitative increase in the elderly population along with a quantitative decrease in the rest of population. The studies on ageing, individual or collective, are significant for the understanding of problems related to elderly care, which is an urgent need in the 21 century. These studies will certainly provide theoretical background to understanding the problems related to elderly care, strengthening of intergenerational relations, elder abuse, elimination of poverty in elderly, elderly widows, social security and health issues."
