"Disaster management aims to reduce human suffering and economic losses caused by natural and technological disasters. We do this by helping the World Bank provide a more strategic and rapid response to disasters, and promoting the integration of disaster prevention and mitigation efforts into the range of development activities. Poorly planned development can turn a recurring natural phenomenon into a human and economic disaster.
Present book "Disasters, Vulnerabilities and Risks" is divided into four chapters, i.e. disasters: definition, global disasters, vulnerability and risks.
The objective of this book is to provide readers with an integrated understanding of various kinds of disasters, hazards and crises and their control, mitigation/prevention and reduction with special reference to possible management solutions."
