"All are aware that the problem of substance abuse including alcohol and tobacco, as well as various synthetic and prescription drugs are widely misused by large number of persons, and it has become an emergency to deal with this problem. It is all the more important as youngsters are getting increasingly involved and India which has the largest number of youngsters as compared to many other countries, would not like to lose them to drugs and drug abuse.
It is also known that many of the drug plants like cannabis, marihuana, opium, etc are grown in different regions of India and there is an easy availability of these drugs. There are especially certain areas in India, where these are available such as the North East regions, which is reported to be facing relatively greater problems with drug abuse.
India also has a large number of facilities for those who are drug abusers and drug addicts, by way of many Deaddiction Centres which provide both treatment and rehabilitation facilities. There is no clear data available as to the success rate in these centres and whether the persons who have undergone the treatment remain free of substance abuse.
This book titled "Drug Abuse : Recent Trends in Treatment and Rehabilitation" is being presented before the world citizenry with the full hope that this book will be used for mitigating the disastrous effects of drug addiction and drug abuse specially among the younger generation.
Ministries, departments, international organisations, NGOs and other related organisations dealing with drug rehabilitation will find this book most useful for providing training to the counsellors and other treatment experts for optimising their aims and objectives for dealing with patients requiring deaddiction prescriptions."
