Empowerment of Women in India
In the current changing scenario of global competition, advances in technology, open economic environment and gradual shifting from muscle to machine and brawn to brain power, importance is attached to Human Resources. In this book, the concept of Human Resource Development in the national context is highlighted. HRD is the wave of the future, but in each country, HRD has different history and the potential for divergent future dimensions must be recognised. The interpretation of HRD from different points of view i.e., economist, psychologist and sociologist has been reflected. The HRD for women covers a wide range of areas like education in a wider context, political empowerment of women and other developmental programmes for women sponsored by the Government. In this book the development of education for women in India since Vedic period to the present day is briefly analysed. Especially, importance of education and provisions in the different Five Year Plans, literacy rates, dropouts at school level, Gross Enrolment Ratio in India, are also analysed in brief. The educational scenario of Orissa in general and Koraput district in particular is reflected in this book in detail. In the second part of the book, the political empowerment of women at both national and international level has been critically discussed. The political participation of women in the three-tier Panchayat Elections, Assembly Elections from the date of carving out Orissa as a separate state in 1936 is highlighted. This book, while attempting to answer this question is a unique collection of data covering comprehensively the analysis of the concepts, multifarious facets and the obstacles that come in the way of women\'s real development. Few strategies have been evolved to achieve it in reality. The book is a unique document for researchers, academicians, NGOs, and the government administrators to initiate campaign to bring changes, which is the need of the hour for developing/empowering the women.
