"The empowerment of women has been a topic of intense discussion for quite some time. Over the years, academic researchers in the western world have studied the diverse aspects of this issue from economic, political, and cultural perspectives. While the discussion o this theme has matured, especially in the west, Dr. Sr. Rosa\'s insightful outlook on this important topic re-energizes both management thought and practice on this subject. It is critical to have substantive research and discussion on women in the workplace. This book heightens that discussion to another intellectual level.
Dr. Sr. Rosa\'s research encourages the reader to fundamentally rethink the status of current research on women empowerment. Her research has reawakened interest in some traditional areas of research, plus opened doors to new and engaging research opportunities. The cultural context of Kerala within which her study has taken place is significantly different from that of western societies. This alone promotes a re-examination of some of the western assumptions about women in the workplace. Additionally, the Indian setting also highlights the challenges of transporting blindly findings from western research to the eastern context. socio-culturally situated studies like this must be encouraged to ensure that the concern for universal generalization does not re-direct attention from deeply-rooted and culturally-ingrained local issues.
Her study is hundred per cent original to its core and therefore highly sought after by research scholars and post-doctoral research scholars in various universities in Kerala and outside. It is hoped that the publication of her work will be a boon to the future genre of researchers as well as those who are interested in the upliftment of women. It will also serve as a reference work regarding women\'s status and women\'s studies till date." (jacket)
