"This book presents a comprehensive account of the commercial energy resources of Bangladesh. The three main commercial energy sources i.e. natural gas, crude oil and coal are discussed in the context of historical development, exploration, geological occurrence, reserve and resources exploitation and utilization in the country. An introductory chapter gives an overview of energy scenario of the country. This is followed by a chapter on the general geology of Bangladesh in order to facilitate the readers on the basic geological aspects of the country as these relate to the occurrences of energy resources.
The coverage on natural gas, oil and coal in individual chapter is illustrated by many diagrams and tables to make the database more comprehensive and easy to understand. Up-to-date status of the exploration and exploitation of these resources is reviewed. Discussions on individual gas field, oil field, coal field and coal mine are presented on case by case basis. In addition to the discussion on exploitation of presently known reserves, the book also throws light on the options or prospect of harnessing unconventional and undeveloped energy resources.
As mentioned already, major emphasis is given in this book on the nonrenewable fossil fuels on the ground that commercial renewable energy in Bangladesh is yet to contribute to any significant scale. Short discussions are included on renewable energy sources including solar and hydro-energy as well as non-commercial biomass in the last chapter." (jacket)
