Pollution is a burning issue and controlling pollution is a matter of concern for all sane people. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder harm or discomfort to the ecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. Pollutants or the elements of pollution, can be foreign substances or energies they are considered contaminants, when they exceed natural levels. Pollution is often classed as point source or nonpoint source pollution. The earliest known books concerned with pollution were written between 9 and 13 centuries by some Persian scientists. However, it was the industrial revolution that gave birth to environmental pollution, as we know it, today. In environmental management, the scientists and scholars term the process of averting pollution as pollution control, which means the control of emissions and effluents into air, water or soil. Without pollution control, the waste products from consumption, heating, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation and other human activities, whether they accumulate or disperse, would degrade the environment. Pollution occurs, because the natural environment does not know how to decompose the unnaturally generated elements. Environmental pollution is causing a lot of distress not only to humans, but also to animals, driving many animal species to endangerment and even extinction. The transboundary nature of environmental pollution makes it even more difficult to manage.

This volume is of introductory nature and it covers the general aspects of environmental pollution and strategies for its control. This is painstakingly prepared research based work taking all relevant aspects and dimensions of the subject in a comprehensive manner. This meritorious study is bond to attract the attention of concerned circles and it would prove to be an asset for all scholars, researchers, social activists and of course, the general readers.
