Fish Chromosome Atlas
"For conservation and sustainable utilization of aquatic biodiversity, it is essential to have information on genetics of candidate species. In present attempt to compile cytogenetic information is part of the larger effort for biodiversity database. In this volume, 128 fin fishes species from 34 families belonging to 9 orders has been compiled. In general, the karyotype information is presented in a uniform format, information on karyotype of hybrid fishes, chromosomal aberrations, polyploidy and banding pattern have also been included in this atlas. The metaphase and karyotypes displayed have been directly taken either from original photographs or reprints. The taxonomic classification given in this atlas as for that followed by Talwar and Jhingran (1991) which is based on Berg (1940). In some cases, recent names have also been reported.
This compilation of information in a suitable format along will figures will serve as a useful references in basic cytogenetic, taxonomy, hybridization, chromosome engineering and biodiversity programmes."
