From the preface:  The consolidated account of 247 species of foliicolous lichens of 38 genera by Santesson (1952) imparted an impetus to several lichenologists, as per the bibliography, in the years that followed, to vigorously  continue the studies on them to the extent that in about six decades the number of the foliicolous lichen species known from the world rose to a little less then four times, and that of genera to more than two times. This apparently had also been possible on account of the modern facilities available for exploration and collection of foliicolous lichens from the tropical regions of the world, where they abound on account of the optimum growth conditions. Publications received from many lichenologists have made it possible for me to prepare this review in the present form.
