Our way of life, cannot be seen in isolation, but in the light of the legacy inherited, tangible and intangible. Unaware, most often we imbibe the intangible aspects like music, art, cuisine, language and customs. The tangible ones like the religious structures, monuments, heritage buildings, rock-cut caves and the like, on the other hand, are reduced to mere places of visit. Every family believes in passing on its values to the younger generation but not many think in terms of conservation of the national heritage as such.

This book aims to create awareness of the importance of heritage conservation and bring to notice the increasing depletion of the same. Delhi is a city replete with tradition and culture. It has seen the rise and fall of several dynasties and the surviving witnesses to these are innumerable monuments, most of them in ruins and the rest in the process of being so. The Muslim rule is an inseparable epoch of medieval Indian history and we cannot underestimate its importance in the light of the fact, out the eight cities of Delhi, six were built by the Muslim rulers. No doubt, they came here as invaders but settled to be Indians, forever.

History is contextual, if we need to learn from the mistakes of the past, then we should also imbibe the art of preserving the goodness we have inherited.
