Women are involved in agriculture since time immemorial, Meghalaya is not an exception to it. In west Garo Hills of Meghalaya, a majority of the people depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Women participate in most of the agricultural practices. Further, people cannot be helped unless they want to help themselves. Hence, training must start with the needs, which people feel important. An attempt was made in this book to find out the involvement of the women and their training needs and constrains faced in the cultivation practices and in the storage and marketing of the paddy as it is the major crop of Meghalaya. Study includes both shifting cultivation as well as settled cultivation. It also includes the role of Garo women in piggery as pork is the most favourite food of Garos. By knowing the extent of involvement, the training needs and constraints faced by women in agriculture and allied sector, the extension system can design and plan their work accordingly. This book will provide a base to design the training programme to the extension functionaries as well as informative for the students and others who are interested to acquire knowledge on role of women in agriculture, animal husbandry, women development, Government and non Government Organization, policy makers and related disciplines.
