The Constitution of India guarantees equality of status and opportunity as well as justice to all the citizens of India. If is provided in Article 15 of the Indian Constitution that the state shall not discriminate against any citizen on the grounds of sex and at the same time states are vested with powers to make any special provision for the protection of women and children. Despite all the constitutional provisions women are still being harassed, exploited and discriminated in one way or the other in almost all walks of life. Though legislative measures have been made with a view to provide equal adequate legal protection to them, but even then all these efforts have not produced the desired results either due to some lacunae in the legislative provisions or due to some deficiency in the enforcement machinery.
In the ever changing horizon the status of women remains a fluctuating one. The word women which stood for the decorative piece, in the household of man in the male dominated society is now a relic of the past today, women are standing shoulder to shoulder with men in supplementary the economy of the family by accepting even odd jobs.
The message of the book is that in order to strive for gender justice and women empowerment, women must fight back for their status and opportunity in the society. They will have to come forward to armed themselves inter varies socio-economic legislations which affect their lives. Women with proper legal economic and education may play a significant role to assert their rights in a dynamic society for peace, prosperity, social, economic and political progress and to achieve the desired objectives of social economic and political justice made for their over all socio economic development.
