"Globalisation of retailing is the order of the day after the GATS. Retailing has become a green pasture bearing a vast amount of untapped market potential which is eyed by the new as well as existing entrepreneurs. The Govt. of India has been taking strategic measures to open up this key sector which was hitherto dominated mostly by the \'mom-and-pop\' stores or Kiranas. The MNCs like Walmart are in the process of making strategic tie-ups with domestic companies to make their entry in this populous country. Just like many other countries, India has also phased out quantitative restrictions on imports. The global retail chains who will find it easier to source cheap products globally will be able to market the products at competitive rates here. But at the same time, it will pave way for a flood of foreign investments accelerating the economic growth of our country. Thus India is now set to experience a new retail revolution which would probably have a severe impact on the unorganised retailers in the country. This book tries to highlight the global and Indian scenario of retailing and the multidimensional implications of globalisation of retailing especially to India. It also covers other related aspects of retail business.
This book would be immense use for the students of Management, Commerce and Economics at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. It would also beneficial to be academicians, researchers and the public at large. This book would be an asset to the knowledge base of retailing in the context of globalisation." (jacket)
