From the preface: "This book has been prepared to make people aware about their duties towards the nation so far as the development of wasteland is concerned. National Wasteland Development Board has done some commendable work in this respect but it needs to be taken up by the community. Individual approach may not bring the desired improvement but collective or community programmes will be helpful in meeting the challenge of development of wastelands. There is a word of caution. Once the development work on a wasteland has been started, it should not be stopped. So proper planning is a must. All development agencies should coordinate to complete his gigantic task."
