"It is estimated that upto 25% of Indian population is suffering from one or more than one kind of allergic symptoms and diseases. This incidence is much higher than U.S.A. and other developed countries due to our dusty environment and unhygienic personal habits of our people. The number of allergists on the other hand is minuscule. The family physician takes the allergic symptoms as trivial and their treatment as casual. Quacks have compounded the problem by liberal supply of steroids for the treatment of simple sneeze or runny nose to the rural masses.

This valuable book, written in simple understandable language, covers a large number of aspects of all allergies. It is based on the latest knowledge available in the literature and will be a leap forward in educating our people about different aspects of allergy. This book is important not only patients of different allergic disorders, parents of allergic children but for all people in general. It will be useful for all doctors as well. It encompasses the experience of authors of over three decades and senior physicians engaged in the management of allergies of different kinds. This book will go a long way in permeating the knowledge to our people by enhancing their knowledge from the latest trends and news given in different chapters, especially the appendices. It may also initiate plans in the government to set up allergy departments in various hospitals.

The authors have dealt with different aspects of allergy in 21 chapters." (jacket)
