“Physical education has often been seen as an arena of general education which complements its arena of intellectual development. In this varied aspects of games, sports, gymnastics, dance and exercise, it lays emphasis on the involvement of motor skills. The general objectives of physical education are to encourage body development and fitness; psychomotor development and sport skills; knowledge and understanding of sports, exercise, health and safety; and affective development, including emotional and social behaviour. The curricular, which is constructed taking into account the age, sex and grade levels of students, however, is concentrated largely towards a single goal; the development of health and fitness.

It is taking into account the underpinnings of health, then, that this book has been conceptualized and designed. It seeks to explore the rigours of physical fitness which effectively emphasize upon the interrelationship of the physical, mental social benefits of health. Understanding the numerous disciplines involved in the subject, such as exercise physiology, motor learning, kinesiology, biomechanics, etc., it undertakes an in-depth understanding for health and physical fitness.”
