The present book on “Higher Education: Access, Equity and Excellence” is a brilliant academic work having an indepth analysis of higher education, its capability creation domain, equity and excellence contents. The post industrial development, in the globalization era has entered into a different wave length wherein labour demand for work has been reduced via speeding up of mechanical automation and robot system of work culture. Further, the technological push factor working through innovation and thus creating a new knowledge demand for industrial workers in India and elsewhere has produced its worst effects in terms of reduced hour of works for regular wage employment and its worsening effects on conditions and nature of employment. We have as a result of it vast doses of contract employment and a set of new conditionality in terms of training and new knowledge.

This book has altogether twenty-six articles spanning over three parts entitled Higher education and development linkages, higher education and widening social groups gaps in terms of access, equity and excellence, and higher education and its skill development linkages and its shrinking domain in terms of geography, quantum and equity in productivity capability of the per unit workers in terms of reduced hours of work frictionalisation of employment and off the job training programmes in large numbers. The whole analysis is arranged in scientific manner and provides evidential analysis on these issues. (jacket)
