"The high jump is another event that has undergone much technical development during recent decades. The improvement in landing areas is one of the principal factors. The earliest type of landing area was grass. In fact the athlete took off from grass and landed on it on the other side of the bar. As organisers began to take pity on the plight of high jumpers who were occasionally breaking their limb, they improved the landing area by pilling sand on the other side of the high jump uprights. Then as greater heights were cleared, the sand was piled higher still.

The present book entitled How to Coach High Jump deals with all aspects of high jump viz., historical background, skills and techni use, and rules. The texts are arranged in lucid form and being written in simple colloquial English.

In this way, the present book has wide scope for the new aspirant athletes especially high jumpers who wish to develop and sharpen their high humping skills, athletes, students and teachers of physical education and sports etc." (jacket)
