Hundred Years of Education in Manipur (1896-1996)
Even before the influence of western civilisation on Manipur, educational institutions were formed. It might not have been like the ones we have today, but they were formed for the sole purpose of educating and safeguarding their heritage and history either orally or in the form of theatre. It must be mentioned that till the mid 19th century infact even today, Manipuris are well known for their theatre and the love of it. This was perhaps the most ingenious approach of furthering the need and desire to educate and be educated.
1896 to 1996 a century of education in Manipur and yet today we have but a handful of manuscripts and documents to chronicle the plight and might of education. (jacket)
